Mass Snowball Fight Breaks out at Jackson’s Boat

A mass snowball fight broke out at Jackson’s Boat yesterday afternoon when most of the customers took to the snow bound garden. Eye witness Jim Bowen said “it was amazing! So many people not at work or school – spending the afternoon at the pub. No wonder this country is in such a state”. Nobody else seemed to care and had a great time!

In the last few days Autumn has arrived with a vengance. The place is covered with leaves.

It’s not hard too see why many people believe that Jackson’s Boat is Haunted. It’s ancient buildings and remote location next to the River Mersey, surrounded by woodland can be very eeire on a dark October night.

In the 1980’s the pub was short-listed in a contest run by Teachers Whiskey to find the most “interesting and authentic haunted pubs”. The pub appeared in the book “Haunted Pubs in Britain & Ireland” by Marc Alexander (Sphere 1984) where the licensee Tom Gray spoke of George a ghost who could be seen wearing full highland dress. This might not be as odd as it seems as the pub was reputedly the meeting place for Jacobites in the 1700s.

More recently a local writer Adele Kain, a group of paranormal investigators ParraQuest and the Sale & Altricham Messenger Newspaper held a ghost hunt at the pub. Although nothing conclusive was found it was a very spooky night. Video’s of the night can be seen below:

Current licensee David Hall reports that spooky happenings and noises continue to this day.

Functions at Jackson’s Boat

We hold all kinds of functions and events at Jackson’s Boat throughout the year. From birthdays weddings and christenings to corporate BBQs, football matches and festivals.

In the Summer we use all types of marquees to make the most of our countryside location and our large grounds and can cater for upto 500 people. During the winter we host smaller functions in the pub itself.

Our aim is to be as flexible as possible. The photos below show some of the functions that we’ve hosted here.
